THE TRUTH ABOUT DENTURES

 Can you handle the truth?

The State Dental Board doesn't think you can!!!

WARNING: If you are easily scared and prone to make rash decisions without understanding the risks as well as the benefits, don’t read any farther. This report is only suitable for rational adults.

For over 20 years I’ve been making dentures for discriminating clients all over the greater Spokane and Coeur d’Alene area. In fact, our denture patients come from all across the greater western US; from LA to Anchorage, from Seattle to Butte. And with all this experience I’ve learned some troubling things about dentures which have only recently begun to be corroborated by researchers around the nation. The problem now is that our political dental organizations don’t think you can handle the truth, and are actively trying to hide it from you!

For instance, I recently ran this public service ad in our local newspaper.

Shocking Research From World Authority
Finds Link Between Dementia and Missing Teeth

In the ad I explained that this was based on recent research done at the National Institute of Health and reported in the Journal of the American Dental Association. Then, rather than spend the extra money on the newspaper space to explain the report, I offered to send a free explanation to any interested person who asked for it.

Well, two weeks later I received a “cease and desist reprimand” from the state dental board accusing me of taking unfair advantage of “vulnerable” individuals. Now the last thing I want to do is to take advantage of anyone, and I still don’t believe offering valuable information did. But that’s why, just to be on the safe side, I placed the warning at the top of this page. On the other hand though, I firmly believe that the public has a right to know, and that we as professionals have a duty to inform about any health dangers we may know or learn of.

And the truth, no matter how shocking it may be, is that –

  •  Missing teeth are associated with dementia
  • People with missing teeth live an average of 10 years less than the rest of us (this is the same life span decrease as experienced by smokers!)
  • Long term denture use leads to bone loss and increased risk of jaw fracture
  • It also leads to increasing discomfort
  • Increasing chewing difficulty
  • Increasing TMJ/jaw joint pain and dysfunction
  • Increasing risk of diabetes
  • Increasing risk of heart disease
  • And increasingly poor nutrition

Now to be perfectly honest, we don’t know exactly why all these facts are true. But most of it is really pretty common sense if you take the time to think about it.

And the good news is that with a little common sence and a good dose of modern technology, we can controle of reverse most of these denture problems.  Well designed dentures will

  • feel natural
  • look the way you want them to
  • allow you to eat anything you want, or need to
  • preserve, not destroy you jaw bone
  • prevent, not cause TMJ deterioration
